London, UK, 1 October 2024 – dnata has announced a significant environmental initiative by transitioning its fleet of Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGV) at London Heathrow Airport to Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), an alternative to diesel. This change is expected to cut the carbon emissions of the fleet by 77%, equating to a reduction of over 2,400 tonnes of CO2 annually.

The move aligns with dnata's broader strategy to halve its carbon footprint by 2030. Alex Doisneau, Managing Director of dnata UK, emphasized the company's commitment: “We are committed to implementing meaningful initiatives to maximise environmental efficiency. The introduction of biofuel, such as HVO, into our UK operations is another important step in our ongoing journey to reduce our carbon footprint."

dnata's recent investments in infrastructure include advanced cargo centers in Manchester and London that feature solar panels and electric vehicle charging stations. Beyond the UK, dnata uses biofuels in Australia, The Netherlands, and the UAE. In Dubai airports alone, they have transitioned their non-electric fleet entirely to biodiesel.

During the financial year 2023-24, dnata achieved a reduction of CO2 emissions by 2,200 tonnes globally through the use of biofuels. Their strategic shift towards electric and hybrid vehicles has resulted in significant electrification across various countries.

The company reported improvements across key environmental metrics for 2023-24 with reductions in carbon intensity for airport operations and travel services. All data was verified by Verifavia.

Established in 1959, dnata provides air and travel services across more than 30 countries worldwide.
