Citi ThankYou Rewards has expanded its hotel transfer partnerships by adding Preferred Hotels & Resorts to its portfolio. This new collaboration allows Citi cardholders to convert their points into I Prefer Hotel Rewards at a 1:4 ratio, meaning 1,000 Citi ThankYou Rewards points can be exchanged for 4,000 I Prefer points.

Preferred Hotels & Resorts boasts over 650 luxury boutique properties in more than 80 countries. The I Prefer loyalty program was revamped in 2023 to enhance user experience, allowing easier tracking of rewards and online bookings with points.

Despite this addition, some users report issues when searching for award availability on the Preferred Hotels & Resorts website. Award prices are displayed for only three hotels out of over 500 participating properties, raising concerns about the site's functionality.

When evaluating whether transferring Citi points is beneficial, it largely depends on the room rate and the cost of points needed for booking. For instance, a stay at Inn by the Sea in Maine costs either $848.48 cash or requires transferring 50,000 Citi points plus taxes and fees if booked through I Prefer.

For those interested in using Choice Privileges instead, they have access to over 300 Preferred Hotels & Resorts properties starting at 20,000 Choice points per night. This partnership faced some devaluation recently but still offers potential value.

To earn Citi ThankYou Rewards points efficiently, consumers can consider cards like the Citi Strata Premier℠ Card or Citi Rewards+® Card which offer substantial welcome bonuses after meeting spending requirements.

"While Citi continues to expand its transfer partner portfolio," cautions The Points Guy (TPG), "a non-user-friendly experience is definitely something that would deter me from transferring my Citi points." TPG advises against point transfers without specific redemptions planned due to their irreversible nature.
