FedEx, one of the world's largest express transportation companies, announced at the 2024 North Bund International Shipping Forum in Shanghai that it will upgrade its FedEx Shanghai International Express and Cargo Hub at Pudong International Airport to an intercontinental transit center. The announcement was made by Eddy Chan, Senior Vice President and President of China for FedEx Express, alongside government officials during the forum's opening ceremony.
The "2024 North Bund International Shipping Forum," co-hosted by China's Ministry of Transport and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, focused on creating a new global shipping ecosystem with themes of digitalization, intelligence, and sustainability. The event aimed to explore trends in the maritime and aviation industries while promoting international exchange and cooperation to ensure steady development in China's transportation sector.
The upgrade plan for the Shanghai hub is a key highlight of this year's forum and represents FedEx's latest investment expansion in China. Once upgraded, the intercontinental transit center will enhance connections between Shanghai and second- and third-tier cities across mainland China. This will strengthen FedEx's network coverage by leveraging its reliable global freight network along with unique products and services. The facility aims to improve connectivity between China and international markets, supporting Chinese businesses in expanding globally with flexibility and efficiency. It also contributes to establishing Shanghai as a comprehensive multi-functional international aviation hub.
