Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) reported stable flight operations during the Swiss autumn holiday period, carrying over 1.3 million passengers. This marks an increase of approximately 82,000 passengers compared to the same period last year. Despite facing unfavorable weather conditions at Zurich Airport and air traffic control capacity shortages, SWISS worked closely with its system partners to enhance internal processes and improve punctuality.

The peak travel period extended from September 27 to October 20, during which SWISS operated 10,211 flights, reflecting a 6.5% increase from the previous year. The airline also transported over 900,000 bags, with more than 98% arriving as scheduled.

However, only about 62% of flights departed on time due to external factors such as weather-related restrictions at Zurich Airport. "With the many challenges we faced, I am broadly pleased with the way we mastered our second most important holiday season of the year after the summer months," said SWISS Chief Operating Officer Oliver Buchhofer.

Buchhofer acknowledged that improvements in punctuality are necessary: "We cannot be satisfied with our present punctuality... We must make ourselves more robust." He noted ongoing efforts to enhance resilience against adverse conditions through collaboration with system partners.

SWISS achieved a schedule stability of 97.7%, indicating that only a small percentage of flights were canceled due to factors like stormy weather in Europe and developments in the Middle East affecting services to Tel Aviv and Beirut.

Top destinations for SWISS during this period included Alicante, Lisbon, Malta, Valencia, Thessaloniki for short-haul flights; and Johannesburg, Montreal, São Paulo, Chicago, Toronto for long-haul routes.
