John Wayne Airport has released its revised statistics for August 2024, highlighting a decrease in total passenger numbers compared to the same month last year. The airport reported a total of 947,733 passengers in August 2024, marking an 8.8% decline from the 1,038,889 passengers recorded in August 2023. Year-to-date figures also show a decrease of 5.9%, with passenger numbers falling from 7,925,145 in 2023 to 7,455,006 in 2024.

The number of enplaned passengers dropped by 8.7% from August last year, totaling 471,283 this year compared to last year's figure of 516,002. Deplaned passengers decreased by 8.9%, reaching a count of 476,450 compared to the previous year's figure of 522,887.

In contrast to the decline in passenger numbers, total aircraft operations increased by 25.5%, rising from last year's figure of 25,978 to reach a total of 32,602 operations this August. General aviation operations saw a significant rise of 40%, while commercial operations experienced a slight decline of -5.5%. Commuter and military flights showed varied changes with commuter flights increasing by over half and military flights remaining constant.

Air cargo tonnage at John Wayne Airport was down as well; it fell by -12.7% compared to last year’s statistics for the month of August.

International passenger traffic at the airport also saw reductions both for the month and on a yearly basis up until now; however minor improvements were observed within specific categories like deplaned international travelers who faced less steep declines than others.
