Deutsche Aircraft has announced a delay in the service entry of its D328eco regional airliner, now projected for the end of 2027. The German company is modernizing the twin turboprop model from the 1990s and aims to achieve EASA type certification by 2026.

The decision follows an internal review and discussions with potential customers, including Private Wings, a charter and corporate shuttle flight operator. Deutsche Aircraft attributes the delay partly to unspecified regulatory changes affecting the certification process.

The D328eco is designed to accommodate 40 passengers and will initially be powered by Pratt & Whitney PW127XT-S engines using power-to-liquid sustainable aviation fuel. Plans are also in place for a hydrogen-powered version, with studies conducted alongside Universal Hydrogen and H2Fly.

In June 2023, Deutsche Aircraft entered into a materials management agreement with Thyssenkrupp Aerospace. The aircraft's flight deck will feature a Garmin avionics suite.

Dave Jackson, CEO of Deutsche Aircraft, stated: “While we have had to realign the entry into service for our D328eco, we are taking this opportunity to investigate further product enhancements and we are satisfied by the tremendous progress of the program to date.” He added that certification panels with EASA are advancing successfully, construction for the final assembly line in Leipzig has started, and over 95% of suppliers have been secured.
