The families of two construction workers who died in a hangar collapse in Idaho have filed a lawsuit against the contractors responsible for its construction. The incident occurred on January 31 at the Jackson Jet Center located at Boise Air Terminal/Gowen Field, when high winds caused the structure to collapse.
The workers were employed by Big D Builders and were assembling the framework of the 39,000-square-foot hangar when it fell. According to the lawsuit, these workers had been sent from another site due to project delays. Tragically, along with them, a co-owner of the construction company also lost his life in the accident.
The legal complaint highlights several alleged violations. It claims that although there was an approved set of building plans by the city, Big D Builders opted for an alternative set provided by Steel Building Systems that required less bracing. Additionally, it is alleged that Inland Crane removed three out of four support cranes on-site on the day of the collapse. The remaining crane was reportedly not rated for high winds and was improperly attached to the structure.
