Carnival cruise passengers have several options for upgrading their cabin, either online or by phone. Before making the final payment, travelers can cancel their existing reservation and book a new one at the current rate, possibly incurring a change fee. After the final payment, however, changing cabins becomes more complex due to tiered cancellation fees.

Discounted upgrades are offered as part of Carnival's strategy to fill cabins efficiently. According to Carnival's FAQ page: "Opportunities to purchase an upgrade are available prior to your cruise, subject to availability." These offers often depend on which cabin is being vacated and its potential resale value.

Passengers may receive upgrade offers via email or through Carnival's website link (carnival.com/PostBookingSales). Offers can also appear in the Cruise Manager under "My To-Do List." However, these opportunities are limited and require quick action.

Unlike some competitors, Carnival does not use bidding systems for upgrades but provides fixed-price options instead. Passengers must decide quickly whether an offer suits them based on ship deck plans and pricing.

Loyalty programs like the Very Important Fun Person (VIFP) Club may also provide upgrade benefits. Additionally, travel agents might assist with upgrades by waiving fees or securing better rooms for loyal clients.

In summary, while upgrading a Carnival cruise room online is possible under certain conditions, it depends on timing and availability. It's advisable for passengers to select their preferred cabin well in advance but remain alert for any last-minute opportunities.
