Boeing and LATAM Airlines Group have announced an agreement for the purchase of 10 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, with options for five additional aircraft. This order solidifies LATAM's position as the largest operator of the 787 in South America, expanding its fleet to a projected total of 52 Dreamliners by 2030. The new jets will allow LATAM to enhance capacity on existing routes and open new ones, including nonstop service to Sydney, Australia.

Ramiro Alfonsín, Chief Financial Officer of LATAM Airlines Group, emphasized the environmental benefits of the acquisition: "The Boeing 787 is a much more efficient aircraft, allowing us to continue growing sustainably while reducing our carbon footprint as we drive the growth of our operations. This order will enable us to receive at least two aircraft of this model each year from 2025 until the end of the decade."

The Boeing 787 family is noted for its fuel efficiency, which allows airlines to cut fuel consumption and emissions by up to 25% compared to older models. The larger variant, the 787-9, offers increased capacity and range.

Mike Wilson, Boeing's vice president of Commercial Sales for Latin America and the Caribbean, expressed appreciation for LATAM's trust in their product: "We appreciate LATAM's continued confidence in the 787 Dreamliner family to further expand its international network from hubs in Santiago, Sao Paulo and Lima. As demand for air travel rises, we will continue to support LATAM's growth strategy and goal of connecting Latin America with the world."

Since its introduction in 2011, over 400 new nonstop routes have been launched using the Dreamliner. The aircraft has also contributed significantly to environmental efforts by helping avoid more than 173 billion pounds of carbon emissions.

According to Boeing's Commercial Market Outlook for 2024, air travel in Latin America is expected to grow at an annual rate of five percent over the next two decades. The region’s fleet is anticipated to expand significantly with nearly 2,300 new airplane deliveries forecasted by 2043.

Boeing continues its role as a leading global aerospace company that manufactures commercial airplanes along with defense products and space systems for clients worldwide. The company maintains a commitment to sustainability and community impact through innovation and a culture rooted in safety, quality, and integrity.
