For many families, the holiday season includes a visit to Santa Claus. One popular destination is Macy's on 34th Street in New York City, where Santa sets up shop after arriving at the end of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Located on the eighth floor of Macy's in midtown Manhattan, Santaland is a festive area designed to resemble the North Pole. It features a 13,000-square-foot Christmas village complete with an enchanted forest, reindeer, and Santa’s sleigh. Each year, over 170,000 visitors pass through this holiday wonderland.

Visitors to Santaland will need reservations again this year due to its popularity. Reservations can be made online starting at 6:30 a.m. EST five days before your intended visit date. For instance, those wishing to see Santa on November 29 should book their spots beginning early morning on November 24.

Santa will be available from November 29 until December 24 when he departs for his annual Christmas Eve duties. Visitors are advised to bring a printout of their reservation with a QR code.

While Santaland is busiest during peak times like Black Friday and weekends leading up to Christmas, visiting from Monday through Thursday earlier in December might reduce wait times. Despite having reservations, waits can range from 30 to 90 minutes.

Inside Santaland can be warm despite the winter weather outside; dressing in layers is recommended. Photos with Santa are available for purchase starting around $40 but aren't mandatory.

Macy’s offers options for visits with Black or Spanish-speaking Santas upon request during reservation or upon arrival. Special accommodations can also be arranged by emailing santalandnewyork@macys.com; sensory-friendly mornings may be offered as well.

New York City offers a unique holiday experience and visiting Santaland at Macy's adds magic to any trip downtown during this festive time of year.
