Edi Wolfensberger Chief Operating Officer | Eurowings

Eurowings has become the first airline to offer an in-flight purchasing option for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Passengers can now buy the organic fruit smoothie 'SAFt' on board, which allows them to offset flight-related CO₂ emissions for 19.50 euros. The initiative combines SAF with contributions to climate projects through partners like myclimate, Climate Partner, and SQUAKE.

The SAFt smoothie serves a dual purpose: it informs passengers about SAF and offers a means to support sustainable flying. Produced from biogenic waste such as used cooking oils, SAF has a carbon footprint significantly lower than fossil kerosene. It is blended with fossil kerosene before being transported to airports, making it compatible with existing infrastructure.

The smoothie itself emphasizes sustainability, being produced by kraftschluck, a start-up from Nuremberg. The company sources 99.9% of its fruit from German organic farms and focuses on short delivery routes.
