Airport Handling S.p.A, a subsidiary of dnata, is set to begin operations at Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) following the Lazio Regional Administrative Court's decision. The court confirmed the legitimacy of Aeroporti di Roma’s tender, granting Airport Handling a seven-year ground handling license. This decision came after an appeal from an incumbent service provider was dismissed.

With this legal hurdle cleared, Airport Handling plans to start offering ramp and passenger services at FCO in early 2025. The company has committed over €20 million for ground support equipment, with more than 40% of its fleet being electric. Some vehicles have already been delivered to facilitate the launch.

The company aims to hire over 1,800 aviation professionals for its operations at FCO. Initial hires include local management personnel with significant experience in the Rome market.

Alberto Morosi, CEO of Airport Handling, stated: “We welcome the court’s decision which reinforces the fairness of the tender process for our operating license. Throughout the legal process, we remained confident and committed to Fiumicino, continuing our investments and preparations to seamlessly begin operations as soon as possible."

Morosi added: "We are excited to enhance passenger experience in Rome, delivering the high standards of service and safety we are renowned for. We look forward to working closely with the airport and our customers for a successful launch.”

This expansion into Rome strengthens Airport Handling's position as a leading air services provider in Italy. The company currently partners with over 60 airlines and manages more than 22 million passengers and 82,000 flights annually at Milan airports Malpensa (MXP) and Linate (LIN).
