No one enjoys waiting in line, especially at airport rental car counters after a long flight. While rental car elite status offers various perks like upgrades and free second drivers, the ability to skip the line is often most valued by travelers.

Typically, this perk is not available when booking through third-party platforms such as Chase Travel℠ or Capital One Travel. However, a popular travel rewards card now makes it possible.

The Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card provides two key benefits for rental cars: earning 10 miles per dollar spent on rentals booked through Capital One Travel and access to Hertz President's Circle status.

Booking a rental car via the Capital One Travel portal with your Venture X card earns you 10 miles per dollar spent. In contrast, bookings made elsewhere earn only 2 miles per dollar. For example, renting a car for $500 would earn you 5,000 miles through Capital One Travel but only 1,000 miles if booked directly with the rental company.

Venture X cardholders also enjoy Hertz President's Circle status. This includes guaranteed upgrades, free extra drivers for spouses or domestic partners, and skipping lines at major airports. A spokesperson confirmed that eligible cardholders will continue receiving complimentary Hertz status beyond December 31, 2024.

To utilize these benefits when booking with Hertz or its subsidiaries Thrifty and Dollar via the Capital One portal, renters can enter their rewards number before payment. TPG senior editorial director Nick Ewen experienced these perks firsthand during his rental from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

Ewen was able to choose from multiple vehicles despite booking an economy car and earned additional points due to his Venture X membership. His experience demonstrated that adding a Hertz loyalty number unlocks Gold Plus Rewards benefits while still earning bonus miles.

However, similar advantages are not available when using other online travel agencies (OTAs). Most OTAs do not allow adding loyalty numbers to reservations; even if they do (as with Priceline), perks may not transfer over.

In conclusion, the Venture X card offers unique opportunities to combine enhanced earning rates with elite status perks on Hertz rentals—a combination unavailable elsewhere.
