Los Angeles World Airports recently hosted Aviation Career Days at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Van Nuys Airport (VNY), attracting over 2,000 students from the Los Angeles Unified School District and local schools. The events aimed to introduce students to career opportunities in aviation through interactive activities and direct engagement with industry professionals.

Rob Lowe, Chief People and Culture Officer at Los Angeles World Airports, emphasized the importance of these initiatives: “At Los Angeles World Airports, we believe that engaging with our communities, especially our youth, is vital for the future of the aviation industry.” He added that these events empower students to see themselves as future leaders in aviation.

The LAX event took place on October 16 at the Flight Path Museum's airfield ramp. It featured commercial aircraft displays, equipment demonstrations, and representatives from over 40 agencies including airlines and law enforcement. Students also toured the airfield for a closer look at airport operations. The VNY event on October 24 showcased firefighting Super Scoopers used by the Los Angeles County Fire Department during wildfire season.

Van Nuys Airport Manager Jacob Haik stated: "Investing in the education of our students and future workforce is crucial for our industry and our region." He highlighted how such hands-on experiences provide invaluable insights into aviation careers.

Participating airlines included American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue, and United Airlines. These companies allowed students to board their aircrafts and interact with crew members. Other notable aircraft included a private jet from Atlantic Aviation, a NASA F-18 jet, a Customs and Border Protection helicopter, among others.

Students from more than 20 LAUSD schools attended alongside those from other local institutions like Bellflower High School, Corona High School, Culver City High School among others.
