In a recent study released by Federal Express Corporation, it is anticipated that courier companies in Poland will deliver a total of 456 million parcels between October and December 2024. This represents a 14.2% increase compared to the previous year, surpassing the European average growth rate of 9%.

The independent study was conducted by Effigy Consulting, which analyzed data from the KEP industry (couriers, express deliveries, and parcels), encompassing 500,000 data points from over 300 carriers across 41 countries.

This holiday season could see the European parcel market reach new heights with an estimated 6.2 billion parcels being sent. This marks a 9% increase from the same period in 2023 when Europe saw the dispatch of 5.7 billion packages. On average, each person in Europe will send or receive about 12 parcels during this festive period.

Poland's expected delivery volume places it among the leading countries for parcel numbers, trailing behind the United Kingdom (1.3 billion parcels), Germany (1.1 billion), France (524 million), and Turkey (476 million) but ahead of Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, and Belgium.

The peak sales period, including Black Friday and pre-holiday times, is crucial for European retailers and manufacturers. The significant growth during this time is primarily driven by e-commerce. In Poland alone, approximately 75.5% of shipments (346 million) will be B2C deliveries during this period, reflecting the growing popularity of online shopping.

Mariusz Mik, Vice President Ground Operations Nordics, Eastern Europe at FedEx stated: “Nadchodzący sezon świąteczny może być najbardziej pracowitym jak dotąd. Europejscy i polscy konsumenci coraz chętniej korzystają z zakupów online." He emphasized that efficient logistics networks are essential for Polish businesses' competitiveness due to the dynamic development of Poland's economic ecosystem.

Europe is expected to import more goods from outside than it exports during this period. The study predicts nearly 200 million packages will arrive on the continent from countries like China and the USA while exports beyond Europe will account for only about 75 million shipments.

Mik added: “Warto pamiętać, że Polska jest również znaczącym eksporterem." He highlighted opportunities for Polish businesses beyond domestic markets through access to intercontinental and intra-European logistics networks combined with innovative solutions.
