KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has announced a new nonstop service from San Diego International Airport to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, starting on May 8, 2025. The service will operate three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays using a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. This aircraft is configured with 30 lie-flat business-class pods, 21 premium economy recliners, and 224 economy seats.

Flights are scheduled to depart San Diego at 1:55 p.m., arriving in Amsterdam at 9:15 a.m. the following day. Return flights will leave Amsterdam at 9:50 a.m., landing in San Diego at noon. KLM's addition makes it the third European airline to serve San Diego directly, alongside British Airways and Lufthansa.

The route spans 5,613 miles and becomes KLM's longest flight to the United States. "San Diego is 'a large, unserved market for the joint venture of Air France, KLM, Delta and Virgin Atlantic,' with steady growth over the past decade," according to KLM.

Amsterdam serves as a major hub for SkyTeam alliance travelers heading worldwide. The new route provides access to over 160 destinations beyond Amsterdam for travelers based in San Diego.

In addition to this service, KLM plans to introduce routes connecting Georgetown in Guyana and Hyderabad in India next year.
