Icelandair has announced an adjustment to its new Reykjavik to Nashville route, moving the launch date forward by approximately one month due to what it describes as high demand. The service will now commence on April 10, 2025, instead of the originally planned May 16.

The new route will operate four times a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays—using Icelandair's Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. Each flight will offer 160 seats. This seasonal service is scheduled to run until the end of October 2025.

Doug Kreulen, President and CEO of Nashville Airport (BNA), expressed enthusiasm for the earlier start: "We're thrilled to see this new connection to Iceland take flight even sooner than expected. This accelerated launch of Icelandair's new route is a testament to the excitement surrounding this connection. We're honored to partner with Icelandair to offer our passengers more international travel options and further solidify Nashville's position as a global destination."

Tomas Ingason, Chief Commercial Officer of Icelandair, commented on the popularity of the route: “We are very pleased to see the great popularity of this new connection between Nashville and Iceland, from our customers in Iceland as well as on both sides of the Atlantic. This new connection links Music City to Iceland as well as onwards to our 34 destinations in Europe and we look forward to welcoming Nashville on aboard.”

This announcement follows a recent bilateral partnership agreement between Icelandair and Southwest Airlines. The Memorandum of Understanding includes a codeshare agreement starting with flights out of Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI). The initial North American gateway will be BWI, with other destinations anticipated in the future.

Southwest Airlines is currently the largest airline operating out of Nashville Airport. For June 2025, Southwest plans over 10,000 flights from BNA compared to American Airlines' 3,000 flights.

Icelandair's US network spans 15 destinations with Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) and Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) receiving significant capacity. Other major airports include New York JFK Airport (JFK) and Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD).
