The transatlantic travel market between the United States, Canada, and Italy is experiencing significant growth. For the third quarter of 2025, an average of 64 daily flights are planned, marking a substantial increase from previous years. This figure represents a 13% rise from Q3 2024 and a 33% increase compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019.

Italy's appeal as a vacation destination has contributed to this surge. The country's affordability due to the strong dollar and U.S. economic conditions makes it attractive for North American travelers. Additionally, cultural and religious tourism plays a role, with events like Jubilee 2025 drawing visitors.

Data from Cirium Diio indicates that southern Italy is seeing notable growth in flight numbers. Naples has seen flights increase by up to seven times daily since Q4 2019, while Rome's flights have risen by 38%. New routes are being introduced to Palermo and Catania; Delta will begin transatlantic flights to Catania next year, and United will join Neos in serving Palermo.

In contrast, Milan has experienced a decrease in flights by 7%, while Venice saw an increase of only 8%. Flights to Bologna and Pisa have been discontinued.

Airlines remain cautious about whether this growth is sustainable at current fare levels. They aim to balance demand with capacity without affecting yields negatively.

As of November 15th, the latest data shows there are:

- **62 routes** (with New York JFK-Rome Fiumicino leading at eight daily flights)

- **11 airlines** (Delta being the largest carrier with an average of 16 daily services)

- **17 US/Canadian airports** (New York JFK having the highest share at 25%)

- **Seven Italian airports** (Rome Fiumicino accounting for 59% of departures)
