American Express has expanded its online waitlist feature to most Centurion Lounges across the United States. This initiative aims to alleviate long lines at lounge entrances, a common issue faced by travelers with premium credit cards. The expansion follows a successful trial at select locations over recent years.

The online waitlist does not guarantee immediate access but serves as a useful tool for travelers. To use the feature, cardholders must open the American Express app when they are close to the lounge. After logging in and selecting their card, users can navigate to "Airport Lounge Access" under the "Membership" tab. If space is available, they can receive an eligibility code; if not, they can join a waitlist and receive notifications when it's their turn.

TPG senior travel editor Lyndsey Matthews noted that despite obtaining a QR code for entry at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, there was no dedicated line for those with codes. This issue highlights a potential area for improvement in ensuring priority access for waitlisted members.

The introduction of this feature is seen as a positive step towards managing lounge overcrowding, which has been a frequent complaint among travelers. It remains important for issuers like Amex to continue refining systems to better manage capacity and improve customer experience.
