MSC Cruises is set to introduce its largest ship, MSC World America, in April 2025. The vessel is currently under construction at the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard in St. Nazaire, France. This new ship will challenge Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas, which holds the title of the world's largest cruise ship.

MSC World America will embark on weeklong Caribbean voyages from Miami every Saturday, joining a competitive lineup that includes Icon of the Seas and Carnival Cruise Line's Carnival Celebration. All three ships operate from Miami with similar schedules.

During a recent preview event at the shipyard, TPG observed various features taking shape on MSC World America. These include enormous water slides, a sprawling family fun zone named The Harbour, and an impressive indoor promenade with restaurants and bars.

The Harbour area is designed to appeal to families with attractions such as a giant water park, ropes course, grab-and-go food options, and lounging areas. Notable elements include three large waterslides and a two-level ropes course featuring "sky rails" akin to zip lines.

MSC World America will also feature six pools and 14 hot tubs, including an unusually long main pool. The Galleria will serve as an indoor restaurant and shopping area while the Promenade offers outdoor dining and bar spaces.

This ship is part of MSC Cruises' new World Class series. It follows MSC World Europa, which debuted in late 2022 for European sailings. While similar in some respects to its predecessor, about 30% of MSC World America's public areas have been tailored for North American tastes.

With a gross tonnage nearing 216,000 tons and capacity for up to 6,762 passengers, MSC World America will be among the largest cruise ships globally upon its debut. It represents nearly a 20% increase in size compared to previous MSC Cruises vessels and competes with Royal Caribbean's Oasis Class ships.

Executives highlighted changes made specifically for North American audiences during the sneak peek event. These include additions like a sports bar along the Promenade and an Eataly-branded Italian restaurant.

MSC Cruises aims to attract families with its extensive offerings aboard MSC World America as it enters a competitive market dominated by major brands like Royal Caribbean.
