Breeze Airways has launched a new nonstop service connecting West Virginia International Yeager Airport (CRW) to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). This marks the first direct connection between Charleston and New York in over a decade. The inaugural flight, MX216, departed on Thursday morning, despite rainy weather, marking a significant milestone for the airport and the local community.

The Airbus A220-300 aircraft took off at 09:25 from Yeager Airport, five minutes ahead of schedule, and was expected to arrive at Gate B44 at Newark Liberty International Airport by 10:55 local time. Breeze Airways CEO David Neeleman expressed enthusiasm about this expansion, stating: "We're excited to continue our growth from CRW today." He highlighted that Breeze now connects over 60 destinations across 30 states with more than 200 nonstop flights.

The launch was celebrated by employees at CRW with a gate party, providing snacks and goodie bags to passengers. The addition of this route is seen as a significant development for air travel options in the area. Paige Withrow, Chief Marketing Officer at CRW, noted positive feedback from passengers who were enthusiastic about the new route.

Jonathan Adkins, a passenger on the inaugural flight and West Virginia native living in Washington D.C., shared his excitement about participating in the event and visiting family. "I'm actually going up and back," said Adkins. "I’m such a travel and aviation geek that I just wanted to be on the first flights."

Dominique Ranieri, CEO & Airport Director of West Virginia International Yeager Airport, remarked on the importance of this new service: "The addition of nonstop service to New York-Newark marks a significant milestone for our Airport and community."

The Airbus A220-300 operating this service features 125 economy seats and 12 premium seats. It entered service on March 11, 2022, and offers high-speed WiFi onboard.

Breeze Airways began operations at CRW in March 2023 and has been expanding its regional presence since then. In addition to Newark, it offers weekly flights to Orlando as well as seasonal flights to Myrtle Beach and Tampa.
