The Army Reserve Aviation Command (ARAC) located in Fort Knox, Kentucky, plays a critical role in managing all Army Reserve aviation activities. The command oversees various operations including air movements, air assaults, inter- and intra-theater transport, and aeromedical evacuation.

Thousands of soldiers and civilians work under the ARAC across multiple states. The command employs both rotary and fixed-wing aircraft to support its broad range of operations. Additionally, the ARAC provides support to all FEMA regions within the United States for emergencies such as response, recovery, and evacuations.

The ARAC's aviation command includes 4,400 soldiers and 600 civilians operating 230 aircraft. This fleet consists of rotary wing aircraft like UH-60s, HH-60s, CH-47s, and fixed-wing aircraft such as C-12s and UC-35s. According to the Army Reserve: "The ARAC provides air traffic services, airfield management, aeromedical evacuation, combat aviation brigade reinforcement, theater aviation support and coordination of aviation staging and onward movement in order to support Army or joint operations."

Army Reserve Ambassadors within the ARAC play a significant role in promoting teamwork culture essential for mission success. They leverage connections with legislative, business, and community leaders nationwide to recruit new talent while retaining junior leaders.

Command professionals are trained for efficient domestic and theater aviation support through specialized operations that enable coordination of aviation staging for Army or joint missions.

The 11th Expeditionary Combat Aviation Brigade (ECAB), based at Fort Carson in Colorado along with several battalions across Texas and California is primarily overseen by the ARAC. The brigade has historical roots dating back to World War II.

The Army Reserve also supports Defense Support of Civil Authorities during emergencies with capabilities such as aviation lift and search-and-rescue missions. It has been involved in relief efforts during natural disasters like Hurricane Sandy in 2012 through the Puerto Rico Earthquake in 2020.

Another subordinate group under ARAC is the 244th Expeditionary Combat Aviation Brigade (ECAB) stationed at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey which focuses on airfield operations and general support.

Col. Thomas Westrick highlights the importance of building staff readiness for large-scale combat operations stating: "Part of our mission is to build staff readiness in preparation for large-scale combat operations."
