The German Armed Forces have received their first Airbus H145M helicopter, part of an order for up to 82 units. This delivery marks a significant milestone in the agreement between Germany and Airbus, signed less than a year ago. The H145M, known as "Liechter Kampfhubschrauber" or "light combat helicopter," will serve various roles including training, reconnaissance, special forces operations, and light attack missions.

Stefan Thomé, Managing Director of Airbus Helicopters, stated: “We remain a reliable partner of the German Bundeswehr. Delivering the first H145M LKH in less than a year after the contract signature demonstrates our commitment. The H145M LKH will be a true multi-mission asset for the German Armed Forces, supporting their crucial missions.”

The initial unit is allocated for training at the German Army's Bückeburg base. Production continues with plans to deliver helicopters designed for light attack roles by 2025.

Germany's December 2023 order includes 62 firm orders and 20 options. Of these helicopters, 57 are destined for the German Army and five for the Air Force special forces. The military already operates 24 H145s for special forces and search and rescue missions.

Airbus describes the H145M as a versatile military helicopter capable of rapid reconfiguration from light attack to special operations modes. It features advanced weaponry and self-protection systems while maintaining low noise levels.

Globally, the H145 family serves various armed forces and law enforcement agencies across countries such as Thailand, Honduras, Serbia, Hungary, among others. In the United States Army alone, nearly 500 UH-72 Lakota helicopters—part of this family—are operational since being introduced in 2006 as replacements for older models like Bell UH-1 Iroquois and Bell OH-58A/C Kiowa helicopters.
