Many travelers are often misled by the term 'first class' when flying domestically within the United States. Unlike international routes, domestic first class can vary significantly between airlines, often resembling international business class rather than a luxury experience with lie-flat seats and exclusive amenities.

Airlines aim to attract business travelers and affluent passengers to their first-class cabins on domestic flights across the US. Despite this effort, filling premium seats remains competitive due to differences in services compared to international flights.

Upon arrival at the airport, first-class passengers usually benefit from dedicated check-in desks and expedited security clearance. This service is typically extended to frequent flier program members with high status.

However, a domestic first-class ticket does not guarantee lounge access. "For example," as noted in the article, "first class passengers are not automatically entitled to Admirals Club entry on American Airlines." Similarly, Delta Air Lines requires additional criteria for lounge access despite holding a first-class ticket domestically.

Priority boarding is another perk for those willing to pay extra. It allows passengers to board early, ensuring overhead baggage space and time to settle before takeoff. Non-first-class passengers can also purchase priority boarding on some airlines like United Airlines.

Inflight dining varies based on flight duration. On United Airlines flights over 300 miles, complimentary meals are provided. Offerings include snacks and drinks on shorter flights and full meal services with desserts on longer journeys exceeding 1190 miles.

Seat comfort differs among airlines. American Airlines' Airbus A321T offers Flagship First with lie-flat seating in a unique configuration, while Delta's domestic product provides wider seats with more recline than economy options.

Priority baggage handling ensures that first-class luggage is among the first on the carousel upon arrival. Most leading US airlines allow two checked bags per ticket with varying weight limits: American Airlines permits up to 50lbs each; Delta Air Lines and United Airlines allow up to 70lbs each.
