Etihad Airways has confirmed an expansion of its cargo fleet with the addition of three more Airbus A350F aircraft. This decision brings the airline's total order for this model to ten, as stated by Stanislas Brun, Etihad's vice president of cargo. The announcement was made during the Air Cargo Forum 2024 held from November 12 to November 14.

The additional aircraft will increase Etihad's cargo fleet to 15 planes. Currently, the airline operates five Boeing 777F aircraft and has orders for Boeing's 777X model. However, it has chosen not to purchase the freight variant, the 777-8F, opting instead for Airbus' A350F.

Etihad initially announced its A350F order in August 2022 after signing a preliminary agreement at the Singapore Airshow in February of that year. The European manufacturer claims that the A350F will address upcoming freighter replacements and meet evolving environmental standards.

In its recent financial report for Q3 and nine months ending September 30, Etihad Airways reported a significant increase in cargo revenue by 21% year-on-year to AED3 billion ($808 million). CEO Antonoaldo Neves attributed this growth to increased capacity and higher volumes and yields.

Both Airbus' A350F and Boeing's forthcoming 777-8F are set to meet new emissions and noise standards established by international aviation authorities. Production of older models like Boeing's 767F and 777F is expected to cease beyond 2028 due to these regulations.

Airbus plans for the A350F to enter commercial service in 2026 following a delay from its initial schedule. Meanwhile, Boeing announced that it would delay introducing the new generation of its freighters until 2028.
