FedEx has announced an increase in its international freight flights from Qingdao to the United States, alongside the opening of a new international port operation center in Qingdao. This development aims to enhance FedEx's logistics network in China, offering efficient and flexible logistics services and solutions to help local businesses capitalize on global trade opportunities.

The route begins at Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport, stops over in Osaka, Japan, and then proceeds to Memphis, Tennessee. Since May this year, the route has been operating one flight per week on a trial basis. With the upgrade, it will operate five flights weekly from Monday to Friday using B777 freighters. The additional flights are expected to reduce transport time for customers exporting parcels and heavy cargo from Qingdao and Shandong regions to North America by one day. Some shipments exported to the United States may even be delivered next day.

Integrating this route with FedEx's existing ground transportation network in Shandong provides same-day export services for customers in areas like Qingdao, Yantai, Weihai, Jinan, Zibo, and Weifang. This allows customers more flexibility in arranging their exports and highlights FedEx's efficient service expansion for global business.

Additionally, FedEx's Qingdao international port operation center is now operational. It is the fifth such center in China after those in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen. Located at Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport with an area of about 2,000 square meters and equipped with a fully automated sorting system, it significantly enhances FedEx’s handling capacity for local import-export goods.

Kawal Preet, President of FedEx Asia Pacific Region stated: "FedEx has been operating in Asia Pacific for over 40 years enhancing connectivity and creating greater value for our customers. Expanding flights between Qingdao and the US strengthens one of the world's most important trade lanes helping Asian businesses succeed during peak holiday shopping seasons."

Qingdao serves as a major hub for import-export trade within Shandong Province and is a strategic city for FedEx’s development plans in China. In the first ten months of 2024 alone Qingdao recorded an import-export total value of 7547.2 billion RMB growing by 3% year-on-year leading among cities within Shandong Province[1]. Meanwhile Qindao Jiaodong International Airport achieved a cargo throughput volume of 206700 tons during Q1-Q3 this year marking a growth rate standing at 10 .5%[2].

The increased frequency on this air route along with commissioning new operational facilities aim towards elevating international air freight resources across both territories fostering robust interactions between significant global hubs thus stimulating regional foreign trade whilst driving economic prosperity aligning perfectly alongside strategies laid out under "Fifteen Five" plan supporting construction efforts transforming itself into globally competitive comprehensive transportation hub city [3].

This year marks forty years since entering Chinese markets whereupon continuously investing strategically enhancing infrastructure networks employing cutting-edge technologies like big data artificial intelligence serving Chinese clientele effectively so far boasting five centers manned by approximately eleven thousand employees utilizing nearly three thousand delivery vehicles exceeding three hundred outbound inbound flights weekly across mainland domains .
