Washington D.C.'s Dulles International Airport (IAD) will soon welcome a new nonstop route to Amman, Jordan. Royal Jordanian Airlines announced plans to commence flights from IAD to Queen Alia International Airport (AMM) starting March 23, 2025. The service will operate twice weekly with departures on Tuesdays and Sundays.

Flights are scheduled to leave Amman at 11:45 a.m., arriving in Washington D.C. at 5:45 p.m. The return flight will depart IAD at 8:50 p.m., reaching Amman the following day at 3:25 p.m. A Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, accommodating 270 passengers with 24 business-class and 246 economy seats, will serve the route.

With this launch, Royal Jordanian becomes the 46th airline operating out of IAD, which serves as a key international hub for travelers heading to the U.S. capital. This development marks an addition rather than a novelty for IAD, as United Airlines already operates this route.

United initiated its service in March 2022 but suspended it in August due to regional tensions between Israel and Hamas. United plans to resume flights next October, though schedules may change.

The market dynamics between Royal Jordanian and United Airlines remain uncertain upon United's return. While United holds strong U.S. market presence and government contracts, Royal Jordanian might appeal more to those based in Jordan or nearby regions.

United offers more premium seating options compared to Royal Jordanian's offerings; however, Royal Jordanian is part of the Oneworld frequent flyer alliance, providing connectivity from Amman to over 50 destinations on one ticket.

Royal Jordanian CEO Samer Majali stated, "By linking these two dynamic markets, we aim to stimulate tourism, trade and investment opportunities." He added that this connection supports their five-year expansion strategy by enhancing connectivity across various regions.

This new route makes Washington D.C. the fourth U.S. destination for Royal Jordanian after Chicago, Detroit, and New York.
