Norse Atlantic Airways has revealed plans to introduce a new direct service connecting Stockholm and Bangkok, marking its inaugural flights from Sweden. The route will operate twice weekly, starting in October 2025, using Norse's Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.

The Norwegian low-cost airline will commence this long-haul service between Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) and Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) on October 29th, with flights scheduled for Wednesdays and Sundays. Jonas Abrahamsson, President and CEO of Swedavia, the operator of Stockholm Airport, remarked on the development: "There is great confidence in the Swedish air travel market and Norse’s investment in a direct route from Stockholm Arlanda Airport to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Int’l is a clear sign of this. Norse will play an important role in connecting Sweden to Thailand."

Stockholm becomes Norse's second route to Bangkok following the launch of its Oslo to Bangkok service in November 2023. Due to high demand, the Oslo-Bangkok route was extended into the summer 2024 season with two weekly roundtrips on Thursdays and Saturdays. The upcoming Stockholm flight is set to run until the end of winter but may extend into summer.

Norse's Boeing 787-9s can accommodate up to 338 passengers across premium and economy classes. Competing directly with Thai Airways on this route, Norse offers one-way fares starting at 2,550 SEK ($230), appealing to cost-conscious travelers. This route was previously operated by Norwegian before the pandemic.

In addition to this announcement, last month Norse unveiled plans for a new route launching next summer between Rome Fiumicino (FCO) and Los Angeles (LAX), commencing May 22nd, 2025.

Thailand has seen significant recovery in its tourism sector this year due to increased long-haul visitors. The country anticipates welcoming 9.6 million long-haul visitors this year with a target of 11 million by 2025. Efforts by Thailand's Tourism and Sports Ministry have facilitated more flights through collaboration with foreign airlines.

Recent developments include British Airways resuming London-Bangkok flights after four years and ITA Airways launching nonstop service between Rome and Bangkok using Airbus A330neo aircraft.
