FedEx Express Corporation is advancing its sustainability efforts by introducing 31 electric vehicles into its fleet in Singapore. This marks the first deployment of custom-built Mercedes-Benz eVito 112 panel vans within the FedEx Asia Pacific network, intended to enhance parcel pickup and delivery operations. The new electric vehicles are designed with a load capacity of 923 kg and can travel up to 321 kilometers on a full charge. These vehicles are projected to prevent approximately 148 metric tons of tailpipe emissions annually compared to diesel-powered alternatives.

The integration of these EVs aligns with FedEx's global initiative to transition all new vehicle purchases to electric by 2030. This move is part of a broader strategy to achieve zero-tailpipe emissions for last-mile deliveries globally. The company is also working towards integrating renewable energy solutions, such as solar power at its South Pacific Regional Hub in Singapore, which will supply over half of the facility's electricity needs starting January 2025.

FedEx’s efforts in Singapore are part of a wider expansion across the Asia Pacific region, including markets like China, Thailand, Japan, Malaysia, and New Zealand. To improve fleet efficiency in Singapore, FedEx employs an AI-powered Stops Sequencing tool that optimizes delivery routes based on real-time data. This tool aims to minimize daily mileage and reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions.

Kawal Preet, president of FedEx Asia Pacific, emphasized the company's commitment: “FedEx is committed to connecting people and opportunities in smarter ways. With the introduction of these electric vehicles, we are taking meaningful steps to lower greenhouse gas emissions while improving our efficiency.”

Earlier this year, FedEx completed its first cross-border EV delivery between Malaysia and Singapore, recognized by the Malaysian Book of Records. The company has also implemented electric tricycles for urban deliveries in Taiwan and introduced electric trucks and vans in Japan and Thailand.

In addition to vehicle electrification, FedEx launched a cloud-based carbon emissions reporting tool called FedEx® Sustainability Insights. This tool provides customers with historical emissions data on shipments within the FedEx network to support more environmentally conscious shipping decisions.
