Private jet travel has experienced growth over the years, particularly during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Although there was a minor decline in 2023, the business aviation industry remains at higher levels than before 2019. Various companies are exploring ways to transform private travel, including KATANA. Bryan Verona, Founder of KATANA, discussed with Simple Flying some of the company's innovative approaches to changing the private aviation sector.

KATANA presents a unique business model aimed at expanding access to private jet flights through a member-centered platform. According to Verona, "KATANA created an expansive marketplace where members can buy, sell, and share seats on private and semi-private flights. Over the years, we’ve continued to evolve, prioritizing ease, transparency, and community so more people can access and enjoy the flexibility and convenience of private air travel without the usual barriers."

The company addresses traditional marketplace challenges by incorporating specialized upgrades focused on private aviation. The KATANA platform aggregates available seats on private jets worldwide through its network of individuals, operators, and other providers. Verona explained that "we provide members with a comprehensive selection that covers both private and semi-private seats. Members also contribute seats, adding even more options to the inventory."

One popular tool is KATANA's Find-A-Seat feature, which simplifies searching for specific routes while highlighting flexible options for travelers. It emphasizes cost-saving opportunities like empty-leg flights. If a traveler cannot find a specific seat for their desired route, they can use KATANA's Add-Flight feature to post their route request on the marketplace. Private jet providers can then offer pricing and connect with travelers directly.

Verona described this feature as "a powerful tool that turns individual demand into an opportunity for shared travel." The success of KATANA in the industry is attributed to its principles of optionality, value, and accessibility. The platform appeals to both individual travelers and jet providers by connecting both sides effectively.

KATANA members appreciate the user-friendly interface and social aspects of the platform such as joining groups or creating co-flights with others.
