Airbus A380 | Airbus

As of December 2024, Air Canada continues its global operations with a fleet of widebody jets. The airline relies on Boeing and Airbus aircraft to meet the demands of long-haul international routes. Data from Cirium reveals that Air Canada operates more flights with Boeing jets compared to Airbus.

Air Canada's Boeing fleet includes models such as the 777-200LR, 777-300ER, 787-8, and 787-9. "The Boeing 777-200LR...is a workhorse on some of Air Canada's longest routes," providing substantial seat capacity for long distances. The Boeing 777-300ER has "the highest seating capacity among Air Canada's widebody aircraft" and is used on high-demand routes. The Dreamliner series, including the Boeing 787-8 and 787-9, offers advanced fuel efficiency and passenger comfort.

In total, Air Canada's Boeing fleet will complete 3,300 flights in December 2024, offering over one million seats and more than four billion available seat miles (ASMs). This highlights the dominance of Boeing within Air Canada's operations.

On the other hand, the Airbus A330-300 serves a pivotal role in long-haul operations but is less numerous than Boeing models. It performs reliably on moderate demand routes with significant seating capacity.

Based on key metrics like total flights, seats, and ASMs, it is evident that Air Canada operates significantly more flights with Boeing aircraft than Airbus. In terms of flights alone, "Boeing aircraft account for more than double the number of Airbus-operated flights."

This analysis underscores Air Canada's strategic use of widebody aircraft with a preference for Boeing models due to their flexibility and efficiency in meeting global travel demands.
