Cathay Pacific recently conducted its Cathay Community Flight 2024, an event that saw over 180 students and mentors take to the skies over Hong Kong. The flight, which took place on November 23, was part of a series of activities supporting the Hong Kong SAR Government's Strive and Rise Programme. Participants enjoyed a 90-minute journey aboard Cathay's newly retrofitted Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.

This marks the second year that Cathay has participated in the Strive and Rise Programme. The initiative aims to broaden young people's horizons, boost their self-confidence, encourage a positive outlook on life, and help them set future goals.

The event was hosted by Lavinia Lau, Cathay's Chief Customer and Commercial Officer. Eric Chan Kwok-ki, Chief Secretary for Administration of the HKSAR Government, attended as Guest of Honour. During his speech at the event, Chan expressed gratitude towards Cathay for its support: "I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Cathay for its staunch support of the Strive and Rise Programme."

Chan also highlighted Cathay's involvement in organizing activities over two cohorts: "Even more encouraging is that Cathay has organised 25 activities over these two cohorts." He noted how these efforts provide opportunities for participants to learn about various roles within the aviation industry.

Lavinia Lau emphasized Cathay's commitment to youth development in Hong Kong: "With our deep roots in Hong Kong, Cathay is committed to enriching the community with a primary focus on youth development." She described sharing the joy of flying with students as "truly special" and thanked volunteers who contributed to making the event possible.

Patricia Hwang, Director People at Cathay and Star Mentor for this year's programme, hosted a session where three students shared their experiences and aspirations. Since its launch in 2007, the Community Flight has been one among several initiatives by Cathay aimed at promoting youth development.
