Cathay has expressed its congratulations to Hong Kong International Airport as it prepares for the commissioning of the Three-Runway System. This development is anticipated to initiate a new phase of growth for the Hong Kong international aviation hub.

The airline group is set to resume 100% of its pre-pandemic flights by January 2025. Cathay Pacific and HK Express plan to expand their flight services, aiming to reach 100 global destinations within the year. This expansion marks a significant milestone for Cathay Group.

Cathay has committed over HK$100 billion in investments over the next seven years. These investments include orders for more than 100 new-generation aircraft, advancements in cabin interiors and lounges, as well as initiatives in digital and sustainability leadership. The goal is to enhance air travel and cargo capacity, improve customer experience, and strengthen Hong Kong's position as an international aviation hub.

On behalf of Cathay, I would like to congratulate the Hong Kong SAR Government and the Airport Authority Hong Kong for this significant achievement."

Lam also noted: “I am particularly pleased that the successful completion of Cathay’s rebuild coincides with the opening of the Three-Runway System. We can now truly put the pandemic behind us and firmly focus on the future."

He added: “Our confidence in the long-term prospects of our home hub is as resolute as ever. As we look ahead to the many exciting opportunities that the Three-Runway System will provide, we are eager to continue doing our part to elevate Hong Kong’s status as a world-leading international aviation hub, connecting Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland and the world.”
