Delta Air Lines and United Airlines are set to operate numerous flights between the US and Africa this December. Delta has scheduled 318 flights, offering 78,954 seats and 482,797,575 available seat miles. Most of these flights will use Airbus aircraft, reflecting Delta's fleet strategy. The airline's only Boeing-operated route connects New York's JFK with Dakar, Senegal.

"26 Delta One business class flatbeds in a 1-2-1 layout," "18 Premium Select premium economy recliners in a 2-2-2 layout," and "172 economy class seats in a 2-3-2 layout (of which 21 have extra legroom)" are features of the Boeing 767-300ER used on this route.

Other Delta routes involve Airbus A330s and A350s serving destinations like Accra, Lagos, Johannesburg, and Cape Town from hubs such as JFK and Atlanta.

United Airlines will operate all its African routes using Boeing aircraft. The airline has planned 261 flights with a total of 63,057 seats and 406,883,173 available seat miles. United's sole Boeing 767 route links Newark Liberty International Airport with Marrakesh Menara Airport in Morocco.

The remaining United routes employ two variants of the Boeing Dreamliner family: the short-fuselage 787-8 for routes linking Lagos with Washington Dulles and Accra; while the mid-sized Boeing 787-9 serves South African destinations like Johannesburg from Newark Liberty International Airport on a daily basis.

Meanwhile, United’s other South African corridors involving Cape Town are less frequent but include connections from both Newark Liberty International Airport and Washington Dulles-Cape Town.
