Japan Airlines experienced a tire burst incident involving one of its Boeing 737-800 aircraft during a domestic flight landing at Kagoshima Airport. The event occurred on November 30, as reported by The Aviation Herald. The plane was completing a routine journey from Tokyo Haneda to Kagoshima with 150 people on board when it landed on runway 34 and suffered the tire burst on its right main wheel. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the aircraft managed to vacate the runway safely.

Flight JL647 is a scheduled service between Tokyo Haneda and Kagoshima, typically departing at 11:45 and arriving at 13:40, taking less than two hours. The aircraft involved is registered as JA336J, a Boeing 737-800 that has been in service since February 2011 and can accommodate up to 165 passengers in a two-class configuration.

Japan Airlines operates a fleet of 42 Boeing 737-800s, with ch-aviation noting that 40 are currently active. These planes play an essential role in the airline's domestic operations. Looking ahead, Japan Airlines plans to continue relying on the Boeing 737 family for many years, having ordered 21 new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in 2023.

The incident is not isolated; several airlines have faced similar issues this year. On November 27, a Jetstar Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner experienced tire problems shortly after departing Sydney Airport for Phuket. In October, Ryanair's Boeing 737 MAX had a tire blowout upon landing at Milan Bergamo Airport, causing significant damage to the runway. Additionally, an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 MAX aborted takeoff due to another plane ahead of it in September, resulting in blown tires.

Aircraft tires undergo regular maintenance due to wear from takeoffs and landings. They are generally replaced every 150 to 400 flight cycles depending on various factors like aircraft type and operation nature.
