FedEx has announced a significant investment of 30 million euros in its European hub at Roissy-Charles de Gaulle to mark the 25th anniversary of the site. This investment will fund a new building dedicated to handling heavy freight, operational by 2025, as part of FedEx's ongoing network optimization efforts.

The existing infrastructure is being renovated into a specialized hangar for heavy freight operations in coordination with Groupe ADP (Aéroports de Paris). The 22,200 m² facility will house state-of-the-art equipment, including scanners and mobile weight measurement systems, and will feature energy-saving LED lighting.

"We are thrilled to announce this new phase in improving our operations with the integration of a building dedicated to heavy freight on our historic Roissy-Charles de Gaulle site," said Julien Ducoup, Vice-President (Hub Operations), FedEx France. He added that the hub has played an essential role during key historical moments, such as the first deliveries of vaccines during the COVID-19 crisis.

Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle serves as FedEx's main European hub and is its second-largest site globally after Memphis, Tennessee. It processes up to 68,000 parcels and documents per hour and employs about 4,000 of FedEx's team members in the Paris region. The site aligns with FedEx's goal to achieve carbon-neutral operations by 2040 through electrification and solar investments.

Over 25 years since its establishment in 1999, FedEx has invested more than 600 million euros in the Roissy site. The company maintains an ambitious recruitment policy focusing on behavioral skills over traditional criteria like resumes. In recognition of its economic impact, FedEx received Business France's "Talent et Formation d’avenir" award last year.

FedEx contributes approximately 1.8 billion euros annually to the Île-de-France region economy. The holiday season represents a critical period for exporters in France, accounting for about 30% of total annual orders.

To adapt to market changes and fluctuating volumes throughout the year, FedEx has developed a strategic approach to its air network model. This includes three sections—violet for priority goods using FedEx-owned aircraft; orange for non-priority freight shipments; and white relying on partner carriers for deferred shipments.

The CDG hub plays a crucial role in this model by providing connectivity for efficient product movement across networks worldwide.
