Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) will see significant activity from European airlines next year. Despite its size, LAX is not a fortress hub for any single operator, allowing 19 European carriers to provide the majority of flights to Europe. TAP Air Portugal will return in 2025 after a 25-year hiatus, marking it as TAP's new longest nonstop route.
Norse Atlantic, operating under both Norwegian and UK air operator certificates, is considered a single brand among the 19 carriers. TAP Air Portugal last served Los Angeles in 1990 with flights that stopped in Terceira. In May 2025, nonstop flights between Lisbon and Los Angeles will commence.
The Portuguese capital ranks as Los Angeles' third-largest unserved European market, attracting nearly 79,000 roundtrip passengers over the past year. While this figure does not place it among the top ten unserved long-haul routes in the US, it remains notable. Many passengers are expected to connect through Lisbon to destinations like Spain, Italy, France, and Portugal.
