Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) will see significant activity from European airlines next year. Despite its size, LAX is not a fortress hub for any single operator, allowing 19 European carriers to provide the majority of flights to Europe. TAP Air Portugal will return in 2025 after a 25-year hiatus, marking it as TAP's new longest nonstop route.

Norse Atlantic, operating under both Norwegian and UK air operator certificates, is considered a single brand among the 19 carriers. TAP Air Portugal last served Los Angeles in 1990 with flights that stopped in Terceira. In May 2025, nonstop flights between Lisbon and Los Angeles will commence.

The Portuguese capital ranks as Los Angeles' third-largest unserved European market, attracting nearly 79,000 roundtrip passengers over the past year. While this figure does not place it among the top ten unserved long-haul routes in the US, it remains notable. Many passengers are expected to connect through Lisbon to destinations like Spain, Italy, France, and Portugal.

A range of airlines are set to operate services by July 2025. Notable mentions include Aer Lingus from Dublin with daily A330-300 flights; Air France from Paris CDG with four daily services; Austrian from Vienna with daily service; British Airways offering three daily flights from London Heathrow; Condor from Frankfurt; Finnair increasing frequency from Helsinki; French bee and Iberia both providing daily services from Paris CDG and Madrid respectively; ITA Airways offering daily flights from Rome Fiumicino; KLM increasing frequency from Amsterdam; Level flying daily from Barcelona; LOT Polish Airlines boosting service from Warsaw; Lufthansa expanding its Frankfurt operation and Munich service using an A380.

Norse Atlantic will launch its Rome-Los Angeles route in April 2025 as part of its growing network. SAS plans daily operations from Copenhagen while SWISS offers a similar schedule from Zurich. Turkish Airlines increases its Istanbul frequency significantly.

Since 2014, LAX has lost nine European carriers including WOW Air due to various reasons such as financial issues or sanctions related to geopolitical events.
