Air Canada is expanding its operations from Vancouver, adding Manila to its list of destinations in the Asia-Pacific region. This marks the first time Air Canada will fly to the Philippines. The new route will commence on April 2 with a Boeing 787-9 aircraft operating three times weekly, increasing to four times weekly in May.

The addition of Manila brings Air Canada's total number of Asia-Pacific destinations from Vancouver to twelve. These include Auckland, Bangkok, Beijing Capital, Brisbane, Hong Kong, Osaka Kansai, Seoul Incheon, Shanghai Pudong, Singapore, Sydney, and Tokyo Narita. "It becomes the Star Alliance member's 12th Asia-Pacific destination from Vancouver (excluding the Middle East)," stated an official announcement.

Air Canada's return to Beijing is scheduled for January after a five-year hiatus. Other routes include year-round services to cities like Hong Kong and Sydney and seasonal flights to Auckland and Osaka Kansai.

The airline's interest in Manila is partly due to its success on other routes such as Bangkok and United Airlines' San Francisco-Manila service. The Vancouver-Manila market has seen significant growth with 151,000 point-to-point passengers.

While this expansion brings Air Canada's network back to its joint-highest number of Asia-Pacific destinations since 2019, it still does not surpass previous records. The airline previously served additional routes like Delhi and Melbourne but discontinued them due to various challenges such as airspace restrictions over Russia.

Despite high demand from Canadian cities for flights to Ho Chi Minh City—Vancouver's largest unserved Asian market—Air Canada services are unlikely due to fare competitiveness compared with other destinations like Manila and Bangkok.

The majority of Air Canada's passengers traveling from Vancouver rely heavily on connections across Canada rather than from the US. The top country pair was Canada-Australia with double the transit passengers compared to second-ranked Canada-Hong Kong.
