The Piper PA-28 series, including the Archer models, has been a staple in training and private aviation for over six decades. The series has seen various upgrades in power, avionics, and engine options throughout its evolution. Piper Aircraft Company currently manufactures six variants of the Archer, divided into training (TX, DX) and private use (LX, DLX) models.

Since its introduction in the 1960s, more than 30,000 units of the PA-28 have been sold. "The Piper PA-28 has been one of the most successful aircraft that Piper Aircraft Company has ever developed." This aircraft family continues to be produced with different versions tailored for training and personal use.

Piper Aircraft Company was founded as Taylor Brothers Aircraft Manufacturing Company in 1927. In 1930, William T. Piper acquired it and reorganized the company. Over time, Piper achieved success with several general aviation aircraft such as the J-3 Cub and Comanche but faced competition from other manufacturers like Cessna.

The PA-28 Cherokee debuted in the 1950s as a four-seater designed for flight training or general aviation purposes. It received its Federal Aviation Administration type certificate on October 31, 1960.

Over the years, many variants have emerged from this model: "The Cherokee 235," "The PA-28 Cherokee Arrow," "The PA-28 Warrior," among others.

"The Archer was originally introduced in the late 1960s" using a Lycoming O-360-A4M engine with subsequent rebranding efforts leading to new features like a longer fuselage and wider wingspan.

Several discontinued variants preceded today's models which include significant design changes while retaining core attributes: "Archer II...certified in 1975," featured improved aerodynamics; "Archer III...followed in 1995."

Currently produced variants emphasize either cost-effective solutions for trainers or enhanced experiences aimed at individual owners: "Archer TX and LX...moved to Lycoming O-360-B4A engine"; diesel-powered options like DX/DLX offer efficiency improvements; lower-cost alternatives Pilot100/100i focus specifically on training needs with specific instrumentation setups suited towards IFR
