SWISS International Airlines has confirmed the addition of five more Airbus A350-900 aircraft to its fleet, increasing its total commitment to ten. This expansion is part of a broader order by the Lufthansa Group, which allocates aircraft based on individual airline needs.

The delivery schedule for these new planes begins with the first set in summer 2025 and concludes by the end of 2031. SWISS CEO Jens Fehlinger commented on this development, stating, “Our new Airbus A350s will make our fleet even more modern. This is a major investment, and a vital one to ensure that we continue to meet our customers’ high expectations. With these advanced twinjets and their innovative cabins, we’re bringing our long-haul aircraft fleet up to a totally new level of modernity, sustainability and inflight comfort for our guests.”

These new A350s are intended to replace SWISS's aging A340-300 fleet, which has an average age of 21 years. The current A340s serve routes including Johannesburg, Shanghai, and Miami. However, it remains undecided whether the new A350s will take over these routes once delivered.

The airline also plans to equip all new A350s with the Senses cabin interior, aiming to enhance passenger comfort across all classes. Notable upgrades include a suite concept in first class and improvements in business class suites. Economy class changes focus on lighting enhancements and an updated inflight entertainment system allowing device connectivity.

Other airlines within the Lufthansa Group awaiting A350 deliveries include Lufthansa itself and Edelweiss. ITA Airways, another airline partly owned by Lufthansa following European Commission approval last month, also operates A350s with additional orders pending.
