A recent report by Airports Council International (ACI) highlights the key issues and trends expected to shape passenger experiences in 2025. The ACI, representing over 2,000 airports worldwide, conducted a global traveler survey involving more than 4,100 passengers from 30 countries who had flown at least once in the past year.

Justin Erbacci, ACI World's director general, noted that "travellers seek a reduced stress journey and are more eager than ever to enjoy enhanced airport experiences. They prioritize comfort, personalization, and ethical engagement." The report emphasized that despite economic pressures such as inflation and geopolitical conflicts, demand for travel remains steady. Sixty-seven percent of respondents plan to travel more frequently in 2024 compared to 2023.

Passengers are increasingly booking flights further in advance, reflecting confidence in stable travel plans post-pandemic. The survey revealed that well-being is a top priority for travelers seeking enjoyable and stress-free airport experiences. "Two-thirds of respondents report feeling positive about their next airport journey," Erbacci said, though one-third expressed a need for wellness-focused environments.

The report also pointed out the growing importance of technology in personalizing and streamlining airport journeys. Seventy-eight percent of surveyed passengers showed interest in technology-enabled options for faster check-in and security processes. However, ACI stressed the need for flexibility regarding data sharing: "Promising solutions to streamline the journey depend on travellers’ willingness to share personal information."

Sustainability has become a significant factor influencing passenger choices. Many travelers prefer eco-friendly brands and support airports with clear sustainability goals. Premium services are also gaining popularity among passengers who desire faster check-ins and better lounge experiences.

In response to these trends, airlines like Spirit Airlines have adjusted their strategies. Spirit Airlines recently entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings but aims to target higher-income households while maintaining cost advantages.
