American Airlines has resumed its flights between Miami and La Romana in the Dominican Republic, marking the return of a route previously operated by American Eagle. The inaugural flight took off from Miami International Airport on December 5th, utilizing an Airbus A319 configured to carry 128 passengers. This aircraft features eight seats in first class and the rest in economy.

The reintroduction of this route is part of American Airlines' broader Caribbean expansion announced in May. The airline now operates more than 415 peak daily flights from Miami to over 155 destinations, making this winter its largest schedule ever from the Florida airport.

In a Facebook post, airport officials expressed enthusiasm for the renewed service: "The skies of La Romana will once again welcome the wings that have connected millions of travelers across the globe. This inaugural flight is more than a route; it’s a bridge of dreams, rekindling connections and bringing the world closer to our shores."

Luis Emilio Rodriguez, Director of La Romana International Airport, shared his excitement about welcoming passengers on this daily flight: “Welcoming passengers on this daily American Airlines flight from Miami is like welcoming a good friend back home, as it has been a tradition for our airport and Casa de Campo resort & home owner community to have this air connectivity between our two cities.”

Despite competition from Red Air's seasonal McDonnell Douglas MD-80 service, American Airlines remains the only U.S. airline connecting Miami and La Romana with regular flights.

In addition to La Romana, American Airlines plans several new routes this winter. The carrier will soon launch Saturday Boeing 737 flights from Charlotte and New York JFK to St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Flights are also starting from JFK to St. Maarten and St. Lucia.
