Passengers on a United Airlines shuttle bus at Los Angeles International Airport were subjected to a verbal attack on November 23. An Indian American family was criticized by a woman who claimed they were "not American." The incident, recorded and shared on social media, has since gone viral.

Pervez Taufiq, who was traveling with his family from Mexico to Los Angeles, recounted the event to NBC News. During the shuttle ride from the aircraft to the terminal, a woman accosted him and his children, telling them to "shut up" while using racial slurs. Taufiq expressed disappointment that the woman showed no remorse for her actions.

Initially, Taufiq's family did not plan to file a police report. However, after identifying the attacker’s name, they decided to press charges.

The female passenger involved attributed her behavior to a historical brain injury and alleged that Taufiq provoked her by using a derogatory term for "white people." Taufiq denied this claim and emphasized that such behavior towards his family is unacceptable.

Taufiq stated that the harassment began during their flight from Mexico when the woman approached his 11-year-old son with inappropriate comments about his appearance. The confrontation continued on the shuttle bus where she used offensive gestures and derogatory names like "stinky" and "tandoori," along with other slurs.

This incident follows another reported case involving American Airlines facing potential legal action due to allegations of racial discrimination in January 2024. Three men filed a lawsuit claiming they were removed from a flight because of their race after eight passengers were deplaned due to an alleged foul odor reported by cabin crew. All affected passengers were reportedly black.

American Airlines responded by stating: "We take all claims of discrimination very seriously and want our customers to have a positive experience when they choose to fly with us. Our teams are currently investigating the matter as the claims do not reflect our core values or our purpose of caring for people."
