Airbus and Air India have announced that the Indian airline has added 100 aircraft to its order book. The new order includes 90 A320neo and ten A350 family aircraft, which were already recorded in Airbus's orders and deliveries filings.

On December 9, a joint statement from Airbus and Air India confirmed this additional order for 100 aircraft. "These additional 100 Airbus aircraft will help to position Air India on the path to greater growth," stated Natarajan Chandrasekaran, chairman of Tata Sons, Air India's parent company.

Data from November showed an undisclosed customer ordered 20 A320neo, 55 A321neo, five A350-900, and five A350-1000 aircraft on September 5. Previous reports suggested that this customer was Air India. On October 21 and October 25, Airbus booked more orders for the A320neo from an unidentified carrier, indicating that the latest deal with Air India might have been completed in stages.

With this new order, Air India's total number of Airbus aircraft on order is now at 344. The manufacturer has already delivered six Airbus A350-900s to Air India between September and December of last year. These planes were initially ordered by Aeroflot but could not be delivered due to sanctions related to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Guillaume Faury, CEO of Airbus, expressed satisfaction with the renewed trust from Air India: "Through this continued partnership, we are committed to supporting the success of Air India's 'Vihaan.AI' transformation plan under Tata's vision and leadership."

The announcement comes as IndiGo continues to dominate the Indian domestic market with a significant share while also expanding into long-haul flights with its own order for A350-900s.
