On December 11, an Allied Air Cargo Boeing 737-400 freighter skidded off the runway at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, Nigeria. The incident reportedly occurred due to a landing gear failure during landing. The aircraft had initially reported a problem with its flaps while descending.

The aircraft, operated by Lagos-based Allied Air, touched down on the airport's 11,844-foot asphalt runway at around 10:05 local time. Following the landing gear failure, emergency crews promptly evacuated all five crew members aboard the aircraft without any injuries.

The runway excursion led to significant disruptions at the airport, delaying many departures and forcing several arriving flights to divert to nearby airports. It took approximately six hours for the runway to be cleared and operations to resume.

A spokesperson from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) confirmed the incident: "At 10:05 am on December 11, 2024, an Allied Air Cargo aircraft with registration number 5N-JRT skidded off Runway 22 at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja with five souls on board with no reported injury. They were all safely evacuated and taken to the FAN clinic for further checks."

The Boeing 737-400 involved in this incident was built in 1991 and has been operated by various airlines over its lifetime before being acquired by Allied Air for cargo operations in April 2014. This model is part of the second generation of Boeing 737s introduced in 1984 and is commonly used worldwide for cargo purposes.
