Boeing has announced plans to expand its operations in Charleston County, South Carolina. The aerospace company intends to invest $1 billion in infrastructure upgrades at its existing site, aiming to create 500 new jobs over the next five years.

Boeing South Carolina (BSC) has been a significant part of the company's operations for more than ten years, focusing on the full production cycle of the 787 Dreamliner. The site fabricates, assembles, and delivers various models of the Dreamliner globally. Since establishing its presence in South Carolina in 2009, Boeing has employed over 7,800 people across multiple campuses in North Charleston and Orangeburg.

The expansion will occur at Boeing's North Charleston locations on International Blvd. and Patriot Blvd., supporting increased production targets for the 787 Dreamliner program. By 2026, Boeing aims to produce ten airplanes per month.

Secretary of Commerce Harry M. Lightsey III also commended the investment: “The legacy Boeing has built in South Carolina is truly something worth celebrating.”

Charleston County Council Chairman Herbert Ravenel Sass III highlighted Boeing's impact on local economic growth: “Creating 500 new jobs and a $1 billion expansion solidify Charleston County’s position as a leader in the global aerospace industry."
