Federal Express Corporation has concluded a series of clean-up activities in Japan, collecting approximately 525 kilograms of litter. This initiative aligns with the company's dedication to environmental care and community service.

A total of 91 FedEx employees participated in the clean-up, targeting parks, roads, and riverbanks across Tokyo, Kanagawa, Saitama, and Chiba. The effort was part of a collaboration with Hands On Tokyo, a local non-profit organization focused on reducing ocean plastic pollution. Volunteers collected 28 kilograms of waste along the Arakawa riverbank to prevent it from reaching the ocean.

"Taking care of our environment is a responsibility we all share," said Kei Alan Kubota, managing director of FedEx Japan. "Our employees are passionate about giving back to local communities. This clean-up is just one of many ways we are committed to promoting sustainability and fostering a cleaner, healthier future for the planet."

Plastic waste often finds its way into oceans, with an estimated 27,000 tons discharged from Japan in FY2023. Marine plastic pollution poses significant risks to wildlife and ecosystems globally. The Japanese government aims to eliminate additional marine plastic pollution by 2050.

This campaign reflects FedEx's culture of encouraging team members to engage in volunteer programs through its global community engagement initiative, FedEx Cares. The company hopes to inspire others to organize similar events that promote community responsibility and environmental awareness.
