FedEx employees recently participated in cleanup activities across various regions, collecting approximately 525 kilograms of waste. This initiative reflects FedEx's commitment to environmental responsibility and ongoing contributions to community welfare.

A total of 91 FedEx employees gathered waste from parks, roadsides, and riverbanks in Tokyo, Kanagawa, Saitama, and Chiba prefectures. In collaboration with the certified nonprofit organization Hands On Tokyo, FedEx tackled marine plastic waste reduction efforts. Employees collected about 28 kilograms of debris along the Arakawa River in Tokyo before it could enter the ocean, contributing to the improvement and health of aquatic environments.

Kei Kubota, Managing Director of FedEx Express Japan, stated: "Environmental protection is a responsibility we all share, and our employees are passionate about giving back to their communities. This cleanup activity is just one of many initiatives by FedEx to promote sustainability and realize a cleaner and healthier future."

Plastic waste tends to accumulate and eventually flows into oceans. It is estimated that Japan released a total of 27,000 tons of plastic waste into the ocean in 2023. Due to growing concerns over its impact on wildlife and ecosystems, marine plastic pollution has become a significant global issue. The Japanese government has proposed an international goal to eliminate further pollution from marine plastic waste by 2050.

These cleanup activities are part of FedEx's corporate culture that encourages employee participation in FedEx Cares programs worldwide. By organizing such events, FedEx aims to serve as a role model for fostering responsibility and environmental awareness within communities.
