George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston has opened a new International Arrivals Curb, aiming to improve the passenger experience and reduce vehicular congestion. The airport, which is the second-busiest in Texas after Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, saw over 46 million passengers in 2023.

The new curb was unveiled at 5:00 AM today. Since January 2022, passengers had been using a temporary Terminal E pick-up zone while construction was underway for a new terminal. Jim Szczesniak, Director of Aviation at Houston Airports, described the temporary curb as "the bane of the airport’s existence." He stated, "With the opening of the new International Arrivals Curb, we’ve listened to feedback, addressed frustrations and delivered a safer, more streamlined solution."

Recently, the airport authority marked this development with an appearance by Moon RACER—a lunar rover finalist for a NASA contract—as part of its celebrations. An announcement from the airport highlighted its history since opening in June 1969 and its current operations offering nonstop flights to 195 destinations across five continents.

The new arrivals curb features eight dedicated pick-up lanes—six currently open—with plans to open two more by January 2025. Additionally, an upper-level departures area with 11 lanes is expected to be operational before spring break next year.

Data from Cirium indicates that nearly 8,000 international flights are scheduled from IAH in December alone. United Airlines dominates these operations with over 5,800 flights out of approximately 1.4 million available international seats this month.

Houston's busiest international route is to Mexico City with four airlines operating it; United leads significantly over competitors Aeromexico, VivaAerobus, and Volaris. Other major routes include Monterrey and Cancún—both also served primarily by United Airlines.
